Intel Brings New Core M Chips for Your Laptop, Welcome Amazing Upgrades

Intel’s next generation chip, Core M is set to turbocharge your laptops and tablets. It will focus on convertibles, ultra-portables and tablets. According to Intel, it is the most energy efficient processor in company’s history at 4.5W. They will arrive next month as Acer, Asus, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo and Toshiba will start shipping new devices.

These processors will fall in the “Broadwell” family – after the current Haswell family. The three versions launched will be Intel Core M-5Y10, the 5Y10a, both clocked at up to 2GHz and the M-5Y70, clocked at up to 2.6GHz. These are NOT the replacements for standard fourth generation for high-end laptops, those will be launched next year.

Intel first teased these processors earlier this summer, in the form of a 7.2mm-thick tablet that was even thinner than the iPad Air.

Other features of these processors include Wireless Display 5.0; Intel’s Smart Sound technology, which allows the device to wake on voice. It will make it possible to wake up a laptop or tablet simply by saying “Hello, computer” and enable the computer to be operated as a voice controlled virtual assistant.

First device that’d feature the chip will be Lenovo’s ThinkPad Helix.
